London, January 11, 1999 – Intelamedia, the multimedia authoring specialist, today marked a new era in desktop computing with its endorsement of Silicon Graphics® (NYSE: SGI) new family of visual workstations based on IntelÒ processors and Windows NT® operating system. The high-end graphics performance offered by Silicon Graphics new workstations will bring the full visual content and graphical superiority of Intelamedia’s Dazzler multimedia authoring applications to the user.
Dazzler is a family of software products for producing interactive multimedia presentations, training courses, product catalogues and kiosk systems. All the products have been designed with ease-of-use in mind.
Huw Edwards, Director at Intelamedia, said, "Our customers have traditionally used Silicon Graphics computers to create the graphical content for Dazzler training courses and kiosk applications, but the results were frequently delivered onto poorer quality computers, and the graphics lost much of their vitality and effect. The stunning graphics performance, and amazing price of the Silicon Graphics visual workstations, will enable our users to deliver the full range of interactive visual effects available in Dazzler, and in particular the 3D technology."
"The Silicon Graphics visual workstations will enable users to experience the full power of Dazzler software, at an affordable price," said Murali Dharan, vice president, workstation division, Silicon Graphics. "This breakthrough technology will help developers and users of Dazzler multimedia products deliver more effective communications and learning experiences."
The introduction of Silicon Graphics new workstations mark, for the first time, availability of high-end visual computing functionality, performance and capabilities at mainstream desktop pricing. Silicon Graphics initial product line includes the Silicon Graphics 540Ô workstation, the industry’s only quad-processor Pentium® II Xeon™-based graphics workstation and the Silicon Graphics 320Ô workstation, a dual-processor Pentium II based system offering the industry’s best price/performance. Silicon Graphics® visual workstations provide the market’s best price/performance for applications using standard APIs, and they are compatible with Windows NT-certified off-the-shelf applications. With a starting street price of $3,395, the Silicon Graphics 320 workstation will begin shipping in February, 1999. The Silicon Graphics 540 workstation, priced starting at $5,995, will also begin shipping in the second quarter of 1999.
The Silicon Graphics visual workstations extend the visual computing capabilities for professionals in a number of the company’s core industries, including entertainment, geo/sciences, medical, government, manufacturing and education. The systems fully enable key applications in desktop publishing, CAD, 3D rendering, modeling, animation, and video editing — applications that are vital to the work of creative and technical professionals.
