Introduction

Back to FAQ's

Dazzler has now reached version 5.5. Our focus in this release has been to follow our customers as they chart their way through the developing world of interactive multimedia applications and to anticipate their need for the opportunities which new technologies provide. As more developers search for fast, intuitive development tools, they'll discover how the new features of Dazzler 5.0 can speed their productivity and slash their development times. Delivering Dazzler courseware has never been easier. Just choose whether you want to publish to disk, CD-ROM or the Internet and Dazzler takes care of the rest.

Dazzler has grown up. Easy, yes. But powerful? You bet!

Key New Features

Redesigned Interface

Back to FAQ's

The Dazzler development interface has been extensively redesigned, to give developers all the power they need as they develop their multimedia apps. Dazzler projects can be seen from different views - from high-level project views of how all the modules fit together to low-level detail showing how variable data is changing as the Dazzler Deluxe course runs.

Internet/Intranet delivery using enhanced JavaTM player

Back to FAQ's

The Dazzler Java Player is an applet for delivering Dazzler courseware and presentations on the Internet or over a company Intranet. Without writing a single line of Java or Javascript you can create your Dazzler presentations and training courses and publish them as easily to the Web as you can to CD-ROM. The latest version of the Java Player shipping with Dazzler 5.0 extends the range of Dazzler features supported. For example, you can play back high quality sound and video using Sun's new Java Media Framework.

Support for Arthur Andersen's Virtual Learning NetworkSM

Back to FAQ's

An extension to Dazzler Deluxe now enables users to create and publish content for Arthur Andersen's Virtual Learning NetworkSM system, providing Dazzler users with a route to distribute their courseware worldwide via the Internet. Intelamedia has worked closely with Arthur Andersen to make sure that Dazzler Deluxe is the easiest way to create content for VLN. See www.aavln.com for more details.

Question Wizard

Back to FAQ's

Slash the time it takes to build computer-based training courseware using the new Question Wizard in Dazzler Deluxe. Create questions simply by making choices in the Wizard. Dazzler Deluxe then takes care of generating the course components and linking them together.

Extended Style Sheet Support

Back to FAQ's

Every Dazzler object, not just text, can now have a style assigned to it. A corporate look & feel can be built up for presentation navigation buttons, for examples. Change the style sheet and the presentation is updated automatically.

Template Library

Back to FAQ's

To speed up courseware creation, template capability has been added. This enables Dazzler Deluxe users to build up libraries of useful stuff for later re-use.

Packager Enhancements

Back to FAQ's

When you're ready to deliver your presentations or courseware, there are several significant new options in the Packager Wizard to help you deliver to your customers:

  • Single Data file: all the media files, such as pictures, sounds and even video can be combined into a single library file which is then read by the Dazzler run-time player. This mechanism helps to protect your investment in your artwork since the library file can't be decoded, even by someone with a copy of Dazzler.
  • Windows 3.1: we realise that many of your customers still have a significant installed base of Windows 3.1 platforms. You can now publish for 16-bit/Windows 3.1 while still retaining most of the features of the 32-bit version.
  • Screen Saver: your Dazzler presentation can be turned into a Windows screen saver.
Preload Enhancements

Back to FAQ's

  • You can now preload any media file, not just pictures. So, for example, you can preload a sound file to make sure that there is the minimum possible start-up time when it's critical to get a sound synchronised with something happening on the screen.
  • Predictive pre-load - if you switch on this option in the Preload Action, Dazzler will work out to which tasks the current active task is linked and automatically look ahead to see what media files can be pre-loaded. This saves you the trouble of inserting Preload actions throughout your course and deciding which files need to be preloaded.
Windows 98 Support

Back to FAQ's

Dazzler developers running Windows 98 can take advantage of the support for dual monitors. Use one screen for viewing the presentation space and the other for viewing the design structure. Just drag objects from one screen to another.

Find, Replace, Spell-Check

Back to FAQ's

A Find/Replace feature has been added. This allows the user to search for any text within a Dazzler presentation. A spellchecker is also included to speed up development times.

New Comment Action

Back to FAQ's

To help you document your courseware more easily, we've added a Comment Action. This has no effect when running the course, but allows you to document what each part of the course is supposed to do.

Movie Layering

Back to FAQ's

Movie Action - AVI video files can be played on a layer, allowing text, etc., to be placed on top of a movie to create truly professional results.

File Conversion

Back to FAQ's

File Conversion Utility. This allows user to convert Graphic files from one format to another. You can also convert Autodesk Animator (FLC) files and Video for Windows (AVI) files to Dazzler animation Widget Actions.
